The third phase of the refurbishment project of metro line M3 affecting the city centre, which started on Saturday, 7 November 2020 with the full closure of the section between Nagyvárad tér and Lehel tér stations. The metro will be operating on both workdays and weekends on the following two sections: between Kőbánya-Kispest and Nagyvárad tér stations as well as between Újpest-központ and Lehel tér stations. Replacement buses will be operating on the skipped section by fully using available capacities, running in dedicated bus lanes on most sections, with a peak-time frequency of 45 seconds.
As before, BKK will expand its service offering of lines connecting most neighbourhoods directly to the city centre or to the still-operating metro lines by avoiding the closed section of line M3. That is why passengers are advised to consider travel options other than the replacement buses: most of these high-capacity travel alternatives were offered already during the reconstruction of the two previous metro line sections with great success. The majority of these services with alternative routing will start operating on Monday, 2 November 2020, so that passengers can get to know and try out the best options for themselves before the 7 November start of the metro replacement period in the city centre.
Bus line 223M to Boráros tér, bus 194M to Határ út metro station and bus 161E to Örs vezér tere are still in operation as before, during the closure of the southern section of the metro line.
Express bus 254M coming from the Alacskai úti lakótelep/Pestszentimre area runs directly to Boráros tér via Nagykőrösi út–Illatos út–Soroksári út, where passengers can transfer to trams 2, 4 and 6, while the transfer point to tram 1 is at Közvágóhíd.
Express bus 23E will be in operation from now on not only at peak times and weekends, but all day on workdays as well, departing from Topánka utca, then making a loop around Pesterzsébet lakótelep, always on the same route via Határ út–Török Flóris utca–Topánka utca–Baross utca.

Trolleybus 72 marked as 72M is now running on an extended route on weekdays as well on a route from Zugló via Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út–Kiskörút–Baross utca to Orczy tér terminus offering extra capacity on the inner city route of the metro replacement buses.
Trolleybus 73 marked as 73M still runs on an extended route to Deák Ferenc tér via Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út.
Trolleybus 79 running via Dózsa György út to Keleti pályaudvar is now marked as 79M and it operates on an extended route to Dagály utca via Népfürdő utca, also serving the Dunavirág utca–Esztergomi út area.
Bus 20E running to Keleti pályaudvar will also serve the Munkásotthon utca stop to provide a better service to residents of the Rózsa utca lakótelep in Újpest.
